Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community

I am Veronica Vela Whitacre; a long-time resident of the Rio Grande Valley and McAllen. My family roots in the RGV stem back over 200 years in ranching, agriculture, and business. For over seventy years, my family has worked in education, governmental civic leadership positions, and as prominent business owners who helped shape the McAllen economy. I also have many years of business experience and have formed strong relationships with members of the community. I understand the legacy of McAllen and what it means to be a part of its growth by planning for the city’s future and continued success. I am directly involved with people in my city.

I have been active within the city for 25 plus years, organizing and executing a variety of fundraising activities for charitable organizations throughout our community. My work for the people of McAllen includes having served on various boards such as Easter Seals, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the International Museum of Arts and Science, the Community Development Block Grant, and as the president for the McAllen Boys and Girls Club. I was a member of the Texas Municipal League, Leadership McAllen, McAllen Education Foundation, and the Scott Crane Memorial McAllen Marathon. Currently, I am on the National CASA Suburban Leadership Council. I work tirelessly for our city and my long-standing service is a testament to my leadership and expertise.

Being a part of the decision-making team for the city’s betterment is important as the city mayor must be able to work with and understand the needs of every facet within the city making decisions based on the needs across all areas of operation. A city mayor must understand the needs of the city, planning with the best interest of the city and its citizens in mind all while being fiscally responsible. I have every intention of fulfilling these duties to the absolute best of my abilities. I am passionate about my hometown, the people, the community, the diversity, friends & neighbors, and all the things that make this city so incredible. I am ready to be a voice for you. I am ready to be your first female Mayor of McAllen.
